Thermoset (220°C) and water-soluble coated sheets for HDI/BGA/IC

Lubricant and coated aluminum entry sheets carry a resin film that cools and lubricates the bit, cutting wear and tightening hole-position accuracy on HDI, BGA and IC-substrate microvias. YUESHAN's default green thermoset-coated (220 C) avoids hole-halo on dense microvias; the base must be 0.10 mm or less for sub-0.15 mm vias.

Key Takeaways

  • Our default push is the green thermoset-coated (thermoset 220°C): stable film, no hole-halo on dense IC/HDI microvias — the grade we benchmark against leading coated-aluminum.
  • Thermoset-coated: 220°C tolerance, cooling 8/10, lubrication 8/10 — for microvias <Ø0.15 mm.
  • Water-soluble: lower cost but humidity-sensitive — not for <Ø0.10 mm.
  • Aluminum base thickness must be ≤0.10 mm for sub-Ø0.15 mm vias.

💡 Field note — why the green thermoset-coated is our default: In dense IC-substrate and HDI drilling, a stable thermoset film (220°C) avoids the hole halo (resin ring / 孔晕) that softer water-soluble films can leave around tightly-packed microvias. So when a customer asks "which coated aluminum?", we lead with the green thermoset-coated and treat water-soluble / general as cost or climate options — not the default.

What a Coated Entry Sheet Does

The coating lowers the friction coefficient at the drill point, driving drill temperature reduction and tool life extension on long production runs.

A resin-lubricant film on the drill-entry face cools and lubricates the bit, cuts wear and tightens hole-position accuracy — especially for HDI, BGA and IC-substrate microvias. Pick the film chemistry to your smallest hole and your climate.

Subtype Comparison

Subtype Film Best for Watch-out
Thermoset 220°C Resin, heat-stable HDI / BGA / IC <Ø0.15 mm Premium cost
Water-soluble Soluble resin General HDI >Ø0.10 mm Humidity-sensitive
HDI · BGA · IC Premium thermoset Microvia, best accuracy <Ø0.15 mm only
General Standard coated Through-hole / multilayer Not for microvia

💡 Which type, when? The green thermoset-coated (thermoset 220°C) is the default for HDI / BGA / IC microvias. Choose water-soluble only for general HDI above Ø0.10 mm in dry plants (lower cost, but humidity-sensitive). HDI·BGA·IC and General are the same thermoset family tuned to hole size and climate — tell us your smallest hole and we match the grade.

Specification Method

How to Specify Your Coated Aluminum

Four inputs let us match the film, base and CpK to your line.

Smallest hole

Below Ø0.15 mm → thermoset 220°C film. Above Ø0.10 mm in dry plants → water-soluble to save cost.

🌡️

Plant climate

Humid or rainy sites should stay on thermoset; water-soluble film can stick in high RH.

📏

Base thickness

Microvia needs aluminum base ≤0.10 mm; general HDI can use up to 0.15 mm.

📊

FAQ

Thermoset or water-soluble?

For microvia below Ø0.15 mm and humid plants, use thermoset (220°C). Water-soluble fits general HDI above Ø0.10 mm where cost leads.

Can you match my leading coated-aluminum spec?

Yes — send your current coated-aluminum spec and we return a side-by-side sample matched to film, base and CpK.
